古武道
The ESKK also train in tradition Okinawan Kobudo (weapons) as an aide to Karate training, to
improve co-ordination, speed and also to assist in gaining confidence. The use of weapons (mainly farming tools) was developed along side Karate to assist in the
defence against armed Samurai and other assailants who were armed with swords and
knives. This was during the times where such edged weapons and indeed the use of metal
were banned amongst the general population.
Kobudo and Karate training have gone hand in hand for hundreds of years. Within the Shotokan systems, Funakoshi Sensei (founder of Shotokan) regularly trained with and taught the use of weapons in his Dojo.

The traditional weapons taught within ESKK are
the Nunchaku (rice flails), the Sai (small hay
forks) and the Bo (staff).
Within E.S.K.K. Kobudo is integrated into the
lessons for adult students and senior grade
children (over age of 10). A separate grading
syllabus for Kobudo has been developed and
students can take separate Kobudo grades along
side their Karate ones if wished.
