The ‘Shoto Tigers’ is a group for specifically for children aged 4 to 6 (inclusive) combining traditional Shotokan Karate with fun learning and development activities. The perfect introduction to Shotokan Karate before commencing in mainstream classes at the age of 7 or when invited to attend by the clubs Senior Instructors.

The training sessions of the Shoto Tigers are designed to be entertaining for the children while teaching them basic skills and self discipline. Although the child may see these activities as strictly fun, there are well-defined objectives behind each one such as improving:- Hand/ eye co-ordination, Eye/foot co-ordination, Timing skills,Self-control and self-discipline, Speed, Strength, Agility, Counting skill (including Japanese language), Social skills, Honesty and Respect.
As the Shoto Tigers is a pre-mainstream Karate class, there
is no formalised belt or grading system. However students
will be continually assessed and a “Samurai Sam” merit
badge system will be in place. Merit badges will be issued
for the following (examples):- High achiever, Excellent front
kick, Excellent roundhouse kick, Excellent punch, Well
disciplined, Dedication, Attendance, 100% effort.
